If your Meta Ads report fewer purchases than your store actually received, you are not imagining it. Browser-only tracking misses a meaningful share of conversions.
Why the Pixel undercounts
- Browser privacy features and ad blockers stop the Pixel from firing
- Consent banners delay or block tracking
- Visitors close the page before the thank-you page loads
When conversions are missing, Meta's algorithm optimises on incomplete data — and your ads get worse.
What the Conversions API does
The Conversions API (CAPI) sends purchase events from your server directly to Meta, so they are recorded even when the browser Pixel doesn't fire.
Deduplication matters
If both Pixel and CAPI report the same purchase, Meta must know it's one purchase, not two. That is done with a shared event ID. Without deduplication, your numbers inflate and optimisation suffers in the opposite direction.
Checklist
- Pixel and CAPI both sending
Purchasewith the same event ID - Order value and currency correct
- Customer data hashed and matched properly
- Numbers in Ads Manager roughly matching real orders
