Why Your WordPress Site Is Slow (and How to Fix It)

The usual causes of a slow WordPress site — hosting, images, plugins, caching — and what genuinely makes it faster.

A slow site loses visitors before they see anything, and Google factors speed into rankings. The good news is that the causes are almost always the same.

The usual suspects

  1. Weak hosting — cheap shared hosting splits resources with hundreds of sites.
  2. Oversized images — resize to display size and convert to WebP.
  3. Plugins loading everywhere — the problem isn't the count, it's scripts loaded on pages that don't use them.
  4. No caching — page cache plus a Redis object cache makes a large difference, especially for WooCommerce.
  5. Heavy themes and page builders — lots of code you never use.
  6. A bloated database — old revisions and leftovers from deleted plugins.
  7. No CDNCloudflare serves static files close to the visitor and adds protection.

How to check

Run your site through Google PageSpeed Insights and look at Core Web Vitals, especially LCP — how fast the main content appears.

We offer a free initial check and tell you exactly what is slowing your site down.
